About Clark Ervin

Clark Ervin is a skilled investigator and defense counsel; national security expert; and experienced corporate board member. He served as an Inspector General twice, first for the Department of State, and, later, for the Department of Homeland Security as its founding Inspector General. He joined Squire Patton Boggs in 2011 as a partner in its Global Government Investigations and White Collar practice group, specializing in representing companies being investigated by Inspectors General, the Department of Justice, the Department of Commerce, and other federal investigative and regulatory bodies. A former Deputy Attorney General of Texas and General Counsel to the Attorney General, he also represents clients being investigated by State Attorneys General. He also conducts internal investigations, and he has served as Special Counsel to the Governance and Ethics Committee of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s Board of Commissioners and currently serves as Special Counsel to the Executive Compliance Committee of a noted government contractor. He has served as a Monitor twice, first for the Department of Justice and later for the Department of Education. He has been a registered lobbyist under the Lobbying Disclosure Act and the Foreign Agents Registration Act. He serves as an ethics advisor to various Firm offices in the U.S. and abroad.A national security expert, Clark served as a member of the Commission on Wartime Contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan, which investigated the use by the State Department, the Defense Department, and USAID of contractors. And, as the founder of the Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Program at the Aspen Institute, he ultimately founded and then directed for its first nine years the Aspen Security Forum, the nation’s premier forum for national security officials and experts.Clark served on the Board of Directors of the then New York Stock Exchange-traded company, Care.com, until its acquisition by media conglomerate, IAC.He is a cum laude graduate of Harvard College (with a concentration in Government) and Harvard Law School. A Rhodes Scholar, Clark holds a Master’s Degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from Oxford University. He has been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and he currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Bush School of Government & Public Service, and as a Trustee of the Holton-Arms School.
