ABOUT CLARISSA GUAJARDO

I am a former Trial Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, where I also prosecuted employers for hiring undocumented workers. Prior to that I was a contract analyst for Columbia Gas Transmission. I have experience in prosecuting housing violations for the City of Dallas. In my private practice, I have represented consumers against lending institutions in DTPA actions, against HOA\'s in challenging violations, in immigration matters before Immigration Judges, before the USCIS, in federal court actions, in immigration-related crimes, before the Courts of Appeals of five different circuits. I am a frequent commentator on TV and radio regarding women\'s and immigrant rights. I have made numerous CLE Presentations. In my practice I have filed both Federal FOIA requests and Texas Public Records on a daily basis. With the D.O.J. I adjudicated and responded to FOIA requests and counseled staff regarding exemptions and exceptions. As a law clerk in the Texas Governor’s Office, I drafted the Texas RICO Act and assisted in updating the Texas Prosecutors Manual on Extradition. I have done volunteer work for Catholic Charities representing unaccompanied minors and for Hear O Israel, Listen to the Cries of the Children. I am an outspoken advocate for immigrants rights, immigration reform, women\'s health issues as well as privacy and civil rights issues. I have 30 years\' experience and am a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law. I completed my Bachelors degree at Texas A&M in Political Science and French.
