About Clarence Young
In my more than 30 year career I have designed and led clinical development programs in large (GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis) and small (Protez Pharmaceuticals, Iroko Pharmaceuticals, Velicept Therapeutics) companies across all phases of clinical development resulting in multiple new drug applications, approvals and product launches. Since 2020 I have advised small companies and investors on clinical and regulatory development strategy for a diverse range of investigational products including - small molecules, biologics, cellular and gene therapies and combination pharmaceutical devices for indications that span therapeutic areas. Some of these projects targeted indications for which there were no regulatory precedents. As Chief Medical Officer for venture-backed companies, I have experienced first-hand the challenges of efficiently advancing development programs, while managing resources and attracting investors and partners. I have felt well-prepared based on my previous roles in Big Pharma, which included evaluating development-stage assets for acquisition or partnering from companies like these. As a leadership team member, one of my key roles has been to identify options for achieving project milestones, engaging potential partners, and reaching out across disciplines to individuals with specific expertise as needed.I have been an active member of a number of non-profit boards including the Gilman School Board of Trustees in Baltimore, MD, where I was a member of the Executive Committee; Ipraxis, an organization in Philadelphia that provides mentoring support to middle school students to develop science projects for their annual science fairs and the Mary Louise Curtis Branch of the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia (20••••24), providing music and arts education to students of all ages and levels. In my board experience, I have leveraged my knowledge of how organizations work and my strategic and operational experience to identify where I can add value— by offering my perspectives on key issues and driving or supporting important initiatives as needed.
