ABOUT CLARE GALLAGHER

Dr Clare Gallagher is Senior Lecturer in photography at the Belfast School of Art, Ulster University and Co-Director of the BA (Hons) Photography with Video programme. Clare was born in Northern Ireland and studied in London, Canterbury, Toulouse and Belfast. She has taught since 2003, is module co-ordinator on the MFA Photography and currently supervises 8 PhD students. She is an Ethics Reviewer in Art & Design and PI on two AHRC funded projects.Clare has exhibited internationally, with solo exhibitions in Helsinki, Belfast and Barcelona. She was nominated for the Deutsche Börse Prize and the Paul Hamlyn Visual Art Award and was awarded the Jelgavas Tipografija Backlight Prize. Her curatorial work addresses marginalised voices and subject matter.Her photobook The Second Shift was published in 2019 and her new book Subversive Mothers, Disturbing Domesticity will be published by Bloomsbury in 2025.
