About Claire Scoggins

As a passionate female with a strong computer science and mathematics background, I’d love to bring my unique perspective to tech industry. While I have a strong interest in quantitative trading, I also enjoy working with machine learning model analysis in my current role at Google. A male dominated field at the intersection of computer science and math is the perfect place for me to integrate my love of CS, math and activism for women in STEM.I attended a specialized technology high school that inspired these passions at an early age. Because of this, I obtained over five years of interning experience at various start-ups, research labs, and fortune-500 companies prior to joining Google full time. This allowed me to quickly rise from past entry level status shortly after my first year on Search.I’ve always loved being intellectually challenged and pushing my capabilities. This is precisely why at Carnegie Mellon University I decided to TA my first discrete math class even though it was my most challenging course. I was the only member of the staff who had not been exposed to discrete math prior to college. The instructor explicitly said he hired me to provide an example of a woman who succeeded in the class despite this fact. Nothing made me more proud than when a female student later told me I inspired her to apply as a TA for that class.Activism for women in STEM has been a big part of my life ever since I experienced the gender gap in the field. In high school I founded a club for girls in CS and I continued my activism at CMU as a member of Women @ SCS. I’ve continued mentoring women at Google through hosting interns, organizing DEI efforts in Search and I always look forward to attending the annual Grace Hopper Celebration.Regardless of whether it’s computer science, math, women in STEM, or learning languages – I’m a woman who is passionate about what she does and I believe that it shows.
