ABOUT CLAIRE STEMP
After working for a number of years in the information service publishing industry, I decided to pursue a career in ESL instruction. I earned my OCELT Certificate of Accreditation from TESL Ontario after completing the TESL program at Seneca College. Since then I have worked as an ESL substitute teacher at two private English language schools, and I\'m currently employed as an online ESL instructor specializing in business English. I\'ve enjoyed one-to-one teaching, but I would also like to gain more experience teaching multiple students through either a virtual learning platform or in a physical classroom. I have a passion for writing and hope one day to be able to work with students more closely on this language skill, whether it be at an advanced or intermediate level. KEY COMPETENCIES / SKILLS TEACHING - Taught over hours of online ESL classes, focusing on such areas as Business English, writing skills, grammar and pronunciation - Worked for approximately 20 hours as an ESL substitute teacher at two English language private schools covering level 2, 3 and 5 grammars courses, a level 4 reading and writing course, a level 7 listening and speaking course and an IELTS preparation course - Delivered over 40 hours of ESL tutoring to students wishing to improve their pronunciation, speaking and listening skills; also helped students to expand their vocabulary by teaching them idiomatic language and expressions - Provided over 300 hours of tutoring for students from grade 3 to 12 levels who needed help with reading comprehension, grammar, English homework assignments and essay writing LESSON PLANNING - Designed lesson plans suitable for ESL students at the pre-intermediate, intermediate and more advanced levels, focusing on the specific needs of each student - Collaborated with students receiving tutoring to create lesson plans targeting skills that required improvement - Adhered to lesson plans prepared by regular teachers at private English language schools, adding additional content when necessary
