ABOUT CLAIRE SMITH
I am a transactional lawyer specialising in commercial and IP transactions, with a specific focus on life sciences. For over 22 years I have been advising on licensing and collaboration deals and all other types of agreements to help clients research, develop, manufacture and commercialise therapies and devices, across a wide range of technologies at all stages of a product’s life cycle. I also advise on the IP aspects of corporate acquisitions, disposals and joint ventures, investment deals and spin outs, and all associated licensing, supply and other commercial agreements associated with these transactions.Before becoming a lawyer, I spent a number of years working for Abbott Laboratories\' diagnostics division, in quality assurance and project management roles. After joining Bristows, I also spent time on secondment to a global pharmaceutical company. I have a passion for life sciences, with a particular interest in artificial intelligence. I am a member of the BioIndustry Association\'s (BIA\'s) Intellectual Property Advisory Committee (IPAC) and chair their AI & Data IP policy sub-committee.Proud to be recognised as a Legal500 Next Generation Partner both for Life Sciences & Healthcare and for patent deals, a Notable Practitioner for Life Sciences by Chambers and Partners, and as an IAM Global Leader for 2026.
