ABOUT CLAIRE OH

As an avid reader, I have a deep passion for exploring and addressing issues related to racial and gender inequality. Throughout my academic journey, I have dedicated numerous history papers and sociology research projects to these crucial topics. My commitment to this field was recognized when I won the Frederick J. Mehl Prize from Santa Clara University\'s History Department for my honors thesis,\"Militarized Sexual Labor: Violent Encounters between Comfort Women and Japanese Soldiers, and Camptown Women and American Soldiers.\" This work offers a glimpse into the historical continuum of exploitation faced by Korean women, from the era of Japanese annexation and colonization (19••••45) to the period of U.S. military occupation post-1945. For my senior sociology capstone project,\"Sense of Belonging in Students at Santa Clara University,\" I examined various factors, including academic classification, race/ethnicity, first-generation status, and religion. This project aimed to better understand the elements contributing to students\' sense of belonging on campus and to provide actionable recommendations for the Housing Office and Office of Student Life to enhance community and inclusion. My concentration in sociology was Community and Social Justice Studies, reflecting my ongoing commitment to promoting equity and social justice in all aspects of my work.
