About Claire Griffin

I am a passionate creator, experienced researcher, and engaging communicator committed to using my interdisciplinary background in science, policy, and media to advocate for the causes I care about. As media relations coordinator for The Nature Conservancy’s Global Communications team, I use my skills as both a storyteller and a scientist to translate and elevate technical environmental research and policy matters to the masses, engaging top global media outlets about the myriad of important conservation projects TNC supports around the world. My professional resume includes diverse experiences in writing and editing nonprofit communications materials, story pitching, public speaking, media tracking, citizen science, community outreach, lab research, data collection and analysis, science comms, content production (graphic design, video/photography, etc), and social media management. I am also passionate about entertainment and the arts, having invested many years in vocal and theatrical performance and explored interests in filmmaking, photography, screenwriting, dance, martial arts, and more. Outside of my 9-5 in conservation, I am actively developing skills in voiceover and audiovisual media production by enrolling in courses locally, self-teaching online, and working for Sofar Sounds, where I put my skills in entertainment and public speaking to the test as a host/MC for intimate pop-up music concerts across DC. I graduated in 2020 from the University of Miami with a B.S. triple majoring in marine science, biology, and political science and was highly involved on campus and in the greater Miami community. I served as an executive board member for multiple marine science/education organizations, helped organize outreach and science communication events and fundraisers all over South Florida, and participated in numerous coastal restoration and coral reef restoration projects.
