ABOUT CLAIRE DE CORDOVA
I am a Cornell University graduate who is passionate about education, counseling and child development, and agriculture. During my undergrad I pursued a BS in International Agriculture, concentrating in Community Food Systems and Agricultural Science. I also acquired degrees in Education and Agricultural Business. Outside of the classroom, I gained experience working in the non-profit sector working for youth development programs, and enjoyed my time working as a student teacher in the Ithaca City School District.I am currently a first grade homeroom teacher in Steamboat Springs, CO; and teach STEAM topics to both first and second grade. I have extensive experience bringing students out of schools and into the worlds\' classroom— whether that be rock climbing in Moab with high schoolers, bringing 3rd and 4th grade students into the field for ecosystems studies, or teaching my first graders about animal adaptations in our local rivers. I am passionate about creating value and joy for my students by orchestrating opportunities to develop resilience and learn by doing; and by scaffolding these opportunities, I aspire to help all of my students better understand their place in the world. I bring joy and curiosity into classrooms I teach in, creating relationships with students that help them reach their highest potential. In the future, I am interested in work related to teaching and educational systems, clinical counseling, food and social justice, and community building.Along with my teaching job, I am proud to serve as the Youth Programs Coordinator for Yampa Valley REPS (Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide). In this role, I develop and disperse engaging mental health curriculum for school presentations across the Yampa Valley (K-12), manage our Youth Ambassador Program and youth facing events, and participate in outreach so that every young person in the Valley knows that REPS is a welcoming, inclusive organization of resources that can help them live happy, fulfilled lives!
