ABOUT CLAIRE BLOOR
I have been a Registered Veterinary Nurse since 2003 and have experience of working in a range of first opinion, referral, emergency and critical care, and out of hours practices. I am most passionate about dentistry and emergency/critical care, but I love all aspects of the job I qualified as an RVN via the BSc (Hons) VN route in 2003 and then competed my Certificate in Dentistry in 2004, my PGCE teaching qualification in 2007, Masters in Education (by Research) in 2011, achieved Qualified Teaching and Learning Status (QTLS) in 2012, and commenced a professional doctorate in 2012. I completed my Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance in 2023. I enjoying learning myself, but am even more passionate about educating others. I spent 18 years teaching a wide variety of veterinary nursing subjects to Level 3 Diploma, FdSc, BSc (Hons), Dip HE CVN, RCVS Dip AVN and RCVS Cert AVN students, progressing from Lecturer, to Senior Lecturer, to Assistant Head for HE, and finally Head of Area for Veterinary Nursing and Farriery from July 2019. I am very proud of everything I achieved during these 18 years, the students I had the privilege of teaching, and the wonderful teams I was fortunate enough to lead. I have extensive experience in a range of different activities from this role - curriculum planning / complex timetabling / staff deployment / budget management / recruitment / staff development / qualification development, writing and delivery / assessment / internal and external quality assurance, to name but a few.I joined the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Lancashire in November 2023 as a Senior Lecturer, and am very excited to be a part of this exciting and innovative provision…Since around 2006 I have written many articles, delivered CPD courses, delivered lectures and workshops at various congresses such as BVNA / BSAVA / BVDA / northern and southern Ireland VN association congresses, supported practical CPD delivery, been External Examiner for a number of HE VN course providers, been external academic expert / advisor for HE VN courses nationally and internationally, been an OSCE examiner, senior OSCE examiner and IQA, and subject-matter expert for a number of awarding bodies. I enjoy enhancing all aspects of veterinary professional practice through education and engagement with different stakeholders and paraprofessionals; to coin a (somewhat clichéd) phrase, I believe teamwork makes the dream work!
