Oakland Unified adopted the Student Engagement Standards in 2007 to ensure that students were being meaningfully engaged in decision-making at school site and district levels and were fully prepared for leadership roles after high school. Through the implementation fo these standards, Oakland Unified has utilized my position to support the All City Council Student Union, which are elected by their student body, to work directly with district officials, community partners, and school sites to develop and create engaging youth leadership opportunities to lead school improvement and change. In supporting the All City Council Student Union, I work with targeted initiatives within the Office of Equity, as well as community based organizations focused on youth development and leadership, to further amplify students\' needs across their affinity groups and promote collaboration across these various student groups. Through this work, I am able to assist student leaders in leading and identifying priority areas and create their own action plans to impact change and work with various stakeholders across Oakland and Oakland Unified.

I am currently the Student Engagement Specialist in Oakland Unified School District\'s Office of Equity department. As an aspiring educator, I have been able to develope a comprehensive professional skill-set including effective writing and rhetoric, data collection, and analysis. I am not only passionate about alleviating educational disparities in low-income communities of color, but I am also passionate about uplifting student voice, social justice, and public policy.
