ABOUT CINDY MERRILL
I’m passionate about making technology intuitive, useful, and delightful for everyone. With over 18 years of UX research experience in a variety of domains, from government websites to industry software to consumer products, I consistently advocate for the end user.In my recent role at Ad Hoc LLC, I supported the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs by improving the usability of the VA.gov home page, benefiting 18 million monthly visitors. Some of my research focused on accessibility for blind and low-vision users, and I shared my best practices for accessibility research with UX teams at both the VA and Ad Hoc. My research on harassment reporting at the VA led to the creation of a 24/7 reporting hotline and the establishment of a trauma-informed community of practice. At Intel, I led design research for innovative consumer products, including a fashionable smart bracelet that detects carbon monoxide and provides pregnancy health tips for women in Bangladesh and India. The product’s successful launch made a meaningful impact on women’s health in developing countries. As the only UX person on a team of engineers, I led both design and research, demonstrating my ability to advocate for human-centered design. My computer science background was a strong asset in this work, enabling me to collaborate effectively with engineers.
