ABOUT CINDY PRIYANKA DHILLON

An aspiring chemist looking to make a better change in the world :) I am currently pursuing an integrated masters degree with a year in industry. I took part in a research project as an intern on sustainable catalysis for the Cardiff Catalysis Institute. Through this internship, I developed more knowledge in sustainable chemistry and its applications in industries, and I experienced working as part of a research team. During my spare time I am a member of Cardiff University Sikh Society where I attend weekly social and charity events, including debates and talks about Sikhi. Recently we held a large event, ‘Langar on Campus’, where we offered free food for students and staff. This event was also awarded for the Biggest Large Event 2022/2023 by Cardiff University Student Union. Back in school, I was part of the Student Council for three years. I served the role as an Executive Committee, a Public Relations Officer and the President consecutively. I gained a range of transferable skills that have supported me throughout my time at university and, I believe, will also prove useful for my future career. I also achieved 3rd place in Chemistry in ‘Science and Business Fair’ in Year 10, where I developed a microbial electrochemical cell which generated electricity from bacterial respiration products. I am a hardworking and challenge-driven individual, with immense curiosity. Besides science, I am also passionate about arts. I love to read literature, write poetry and sing. I have been successful in submitting my writing to competitions and getting it published. Additionally, I have previously been vocalist and bassist in a band and won competitions. To sum up, I am very much looking forward to experiencing the rest of my years in Cardiff University and working in the field of chemistry!
