About Cindy Mayorga
I am currently pursuing my PhD in the Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department at Purdue University in Dr. Verma\'s Lab. My research focuses on two main areas: using Raman spectroscopy for the detection and characterization of biologics, and developing LAMP-based diagnostic tools for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 in animal samples. In addition to Raman spectroscopy and isothermal amplification methods, I have developed strong expertise in molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, digital PCR (dPCR), nucleic acid extraction, and cell and virus culture. These skills support my work in developing rapid and sensitive diagnostic platforms. Before beginning my PhD, I earned an MS in Food Science from Purdue University as a Fulbright Faculty Development Fellow. I also hold a B.Sc. in Food Engineering from Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá. Throughout my academic journey, I have received extensive training in food processing and technology, spectrochemical instrumentation, and biosensors. I am passionate about integrating these diverse competencies to drive innovation in biotechnology and diagnostics.
