ABOUT CINDY H. T. YEUNG

I am an Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University who is analytical, detail-oriented, and building modeling and simulation expertise in the field of pharmacokinetics (what the body does to the drug) to help better understand how medications might affect those who are vulnerable. My research specifically applies physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling to develop a novel exposure metric to assess risk in infants breastfed by mothers taking medication. This novel metric, termed the \"Upper AUC Ratio\" or \"UAR\", uses pediatric PBPK modeling, maternal breast milk samples, and information about volume of infant milk intake to make sure that we capture infants most at risk. My research is mainly funded through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship. To date, I have communicated my research through 25 peer-reviewed journal publications and 8 conference abstract publications. Find out more about my research here: Outside of research, I developed strong leadership skills through 3 years of graduate student leadership. Most recently, I served as the Vice President of Administration at the Graduate Student Association - University of Waterloo (GSA-UW) and oversaw a team that included coordinators in wellness and international students. I have also attained a Leadership Certificate from UW\'s Professional Development which gave me the foundation to be an effective coach, build and work in teams, perform strategic and business planning, and much more. I am passionate about mentorship in the university, currently serving as a member of the President\'s Anti-Racism Taskforce (PART) Professional and Academic Development and Mentorship Working Group; and in the wider community as a past volunteer of the Girls Linking Our World program which focuses on activities that seek to empower, address bullying and stereotypes, and build confidence, leadership skills, and empathy in girls attending elementary school. These passions of mine stem from my own experiences and I enjoy giving back to the community.
