ABOUT CINDY BUSTAMANTE

Following a 10 year pursuit of a traditional career path in architecture (M Arch, UC Berkeley), my interest and passion for architecture transitioned to Business Development strategies. I continue to support AEC firms as a Business Development Director. The results are clear: I have successfully built new markets for architecture firms who have continued to leverage those original market successes and contacts. Many of these successful pursuits and connections are based on my keen understanding and sincere interest in supporting the clients\' goals and visions for a project. Throughout my architectural career, I have been a passionate advocate for social justice. My interest started in high school when I participated for two years in Cesar Chavez\'s grassroots efforts to establish the United Farm Worker\'s Union through strikes and protests. My passion for social justice continued through college and eventually as a committee member of the Organization of Women Architects for several years. I continue to bring my passion for social justice to all aspects of architecture, and particularly, in the programming nuances that can impact the quality of life for multiple building and community types: senior housing, memory care, K-12, college buildings, affordable housing, and the workplace. I have developed excellent connections and business development/communication skills as a result of many years leading professional organization committees and serving on boards. I have organized state-wide conferences, regional workshops, building tours, and local events. I received a CCAIA Community Service Award as the AIA East Bay Women In Architecture Founder, and specifically, for organizing and leading a community-wide support group for over 50 women fire victims. Early in my career, I had the opportunity to work for the Navy\'s Western Div. Naval Eng. Command (WESTDIV) as an architecture lead/project manager. As the client, I learned the hard way about architectural and other professional services - what worked and what didn\'t. I continue to bring that understanding of professional relationships from the Owner\'s perspective into every pursuit and client relationship. Professional Organizations include: Co-Chair, SMPS Business Leaders Forum, East Bay - 2015-present EDI Committee, AIAEB EDI Committee, CCAIA SCUP CCFC ULI Board Member, AIAEB - past Founder, Women in Architecture Committee, AIAEB - past Steering Committee, OWA (Organization of Women Architects)- past
