About Chynna Phillips

Chynna A. Phillips. I am a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend. Having amazing parents who laid the foundation of what it means to be a servant leader, I cater my professional and academic career to helping others. I do this with the focus of health equity in mind, understanding that for individuals and communities to be healthy, it requires a holistic view of health and a commitment to making systemic change. My professional career is one that tells a story of advocating for and alongside vulnerable populations. I have worked for a school that equipped children who fall below the federal poverty guidelines with private education and work experience, through a work-study program. I have interned at the Children’s Defense Fund to aid in their efforts to dismantle the cradle to prison pipeline. I continued my career journey in South Carolina in community health, teaching students a health-based youth curriculum in four different school districts within the Midlands. I later continued as the Senior Director of Research and Policy for a Foundation devoted to alleviating poverty within the state of South Carolina. As an MSW & MPH graduate, with experience in research, policy, and philanthropy I hope that this experience helps to equip me with the additional tools necessary to continue being a servant leader ever working toward achieving health equity in all communities.
