About Chun-Han Sophia Lin

Chun-Han Sophia Lin, originally from Taiwan, started her first serious piano training in the United States with Ms. Erna Gulabyan, preparatory faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory. Through her instruction, Sophia quickly became a prize winner of multiple competitions such as the MTAC (Music Teacher\'s Association of California), CAPMT (California Association of Professional Music Teachers), Stanford Young Artist Festival, the Olympiad of the Arts, etc. Uncertain at first of a musical path, Sophia applied and was accepted to top universities in both biology and piano. After choosing Rice University over a merit scholarship, she subsequently received grants from the Peabody Institute, where she completed her Bachelor of Music. Then, at the Manhattan School of Music, she earned her Master of Music and Professional Studies Certificate under the guidance of Dr. Arkady Aronov. Sophia has obtained her Doctor of Musical Arts in 2018 under full scholarship from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where she studied with Professor Alexander Braginsky. She was also simultaneously a candidate for the Master of Arts in Music Theory, advised by Dr. Michael Cherlin and Dr. Matt Bribitzer-Stull while having served as a 50% graduate teaching assistant in the department. After working for three years as an Assistant Professor of Music at the Alderson Broaddus University, where she instructed keyboard classes, music theory, history and aural skills to undergraduate music education majors, Sophia taught full-time as a piano and music theory teacher. Since realizing the importance of understanding how businesses are run, she then worked briefly as an administrative assistant at a private K-5 school, and now serves as the Operations Assistant at CollTech North America. Her notable performances include holiday concerts with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
