ABOUT CHUCK KNAPP

I am a conservation science practitioner working for the past 30 years to save endangered species. I work at the nexus of the zoological, academic, governmental, and traditional conservation spaces to advance conservation outcomes. I work within local and global conservation networks and lead collaborative teams of conservation scientists who work near and far, oversee formal academic programs that provide conservation training, and manage the idiosyncrasies of a research vessel. I have a deep understanding of conservation among diverse communities and use those skills to translate science into better policies, improved management practices, and restoration actions that aid in saving species from extinction. I amplify these skillsets while serving as Co-chair of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) Iguana Specialist Group. I am also committed to global stewardship and serve on several international and regional boards. At the executive level, I understand that leadership in the conservation space requires a deep understanding of the importance of strategic planning, program development and evaluation, organizational buy-in, and fundraising. I have used innovative approaches at various scales and among diverse stakeholders to spearhead programs, diversify funding portfolios, and raise significant annual funds to support conservation and research enterprises.
