About Christy McGuire

Christy McGuire is an educator, editor, writing coach, learning scientist, and lifelong learner who has worked and volunteered in education-related spaces for over 25 years. She focused on the roles of metacognitive strategies in adult learning and memory for her Ph.D. in cognitive and experimental psychology from Georgia Tech in 2001. In 2021, she completed an Ed.D. at the University of Pittsburgh, examining white teachers’ beliefs about discussing race and racism in the classroom. She is particularly interested in working with educators around the ways that knowledge and beliefs inform and influence their pedagogical practices, as well as in exploring humans’ various ways of knowing. Christy is the Executive & Project Specialist at Pittsburgh Scholar House. She serves on the board of directors for Write Pittsburgh, volunteers as an Education Program Assistant for the Forage Center for Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Education, and has contributed her time as judge for local, regional, and international science fairs for over 15 years.
