ABOUT CHRISTY M. BROCKHAUSEN

I’m a language and literacy architect.My work focuses on how students with language-based learning differences acquire language, literacy, and knowledge and what it takes for that understanding to show up in everyday classroom practice.I design instructional systems and professional learning that make evidence-based practice sustainable, not just in theory, but in real schools, with real teachers and students, under real conditions.Over time, I’ve come to see that knowing the research isn’t enough.The harder work is what it takes for that knowledge to actually shape practice. Much of my work lives in the space where strong ideas meet the complexity of classrooms, and where well-intentioned efforts to improve instruction often struggle to take hold.I spend a lot of time thinking about the conditions that make change possible: how teachers learn, how systems support (or get in the way of) good instruction, and how knowledge translates—or doesn’t—into practice.This work has been shaped as much by listening to educators and working alongside them as by research.I approach it with deep respect for the realities teachers navigate every day, and a belief that meaningful change has to be both intellectually sound and practically possible.I value thoughtful conversation with people who are thinking seriously about language, literacy, learning, and what it takes to make change actually stick.
