ABOUT CHRISTOPHER RISI

I\'m a Computer Science Ph.D. student at the University of Waterloo, specializing in artificial intelligence, and a member of the Computational Health Informatics Lab (CHIL). In 2023, I was diagnosed with a rare subtype of type 1 diabetes called Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of Adults (LADA), so I decided to pivot my research focus to developing AI systems for the health and wellness of diabetics. I\'m working on various diabetes-related problems to support decision-making with insulin dosing and helping alleviate diabetes distress, like automatic meal identification from continuous glucose monitoring sensors, pre and post-prandial causal modelling, nocturnal hypoglycemic forecasting, and simulated insulin controllers with reinforcement learning. My research also focuses on developing methodologies for alternative learning paradigms and evaluating them in non-stationary and non-i.i.d settings, such as transfer learning, out-of-distribution generalization, domain adaptation, and zero-shot learning. With my pivot to diabetes research, I\'ve begun focusing on time series paradigms like time series representation learning, annotation, and detectors.
