ABOUT CHRIS MATHANY

Most of my days start with a void space. Within mere hours, that space can magically transform into a unique event-specific environment. I am in awe of how that unique magic can be equally transformative for an audience. Our job is to make our clients look their best for their time in the spotlight. The masses converge. Messages are conveyed. Emotions are invoked. Minds are opened and changed. Conversations are started. Each event is unique in its own way and exists only for its own duration in space and time, as afterwards it all goes away leaving void space again with seldom a hint that it ever took place. Few human experiences can rival that momentary magic. After 25 years in the live events business, I remain passionate about this line of work. The technology keeps evolving and as do new concepts that help us work faster, better and safer. My favourite projects start with something that has never been done before or with clients that are dissatisfied with the way something has been done in the past. I get chills when I stand in a void space with my clientele, hearing their concepts and ideas and seeing production flowers bloom forth in my mind. I meet with clients daily to discuss their ideas, share some of my own experience and talk about possibilities. I “convert” raw ideas from meetings into the necessary production equipment and personnel required to build an event. I document event designs by writing proposals and drawing up scale floor plans. I work within the budget-constraints of events via a range of long-standing supplier relationships representing a full spectrum of products and price points. I deal with changes leading up to a given event in real-time, acting as the dedicated-link between clients and our services. During implementation, I am present to make sure everything goes according to plan, even if it means diving in and getting my hands dirty.
