ABOUT CHRIS HEIMANN
I teach Improvisation - the Art of Now. In Berlin, London, Europe & beyond.I am an award-winning theatre director of two Fringe First awards at the Edinburgh Festival and productions at leading British theatres such as the Young Vic and Soho Theatre in London. As a writer, one of my devised plays called “100” has been selected to be part of the UK GCSE Drama curriculum for secondary schools alongside “Twelfth Night” by Shakespeare. Since 2005, I have been teaching Improvisation at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. My former Impro students include Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Taron Egerton (Rocketman), Marisa Abela (Back to Black), James Norton (Happy Valley), Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education)…Working with actors over many years, it has become increasingly clear to me that Improvisation is an essential life skill: No matter how good our plans and how well prepared we may be, life will always remain uncertain. And no matter how much of our past we may carry with us, or how much we may be planning for the future, the only time we can only ever truly take action is the present moment… now.My improvisation work - with actors, leaders, teams - is about expanding the present moment. It is about making friends with the unknown as the source of creativity and transformation. Playing improvisational games, we connect with our awareness, impulses, instincts and intuition - which people often experience as very joyful and alive. We also become aware of our habits. Because everyone tends to feel, think and act differently within each game, games help us see ourselves - they are mirrors. Games also provide a safe space to experiment with new and different ways of acting and being beyond our ‘normal’, habitual personality - and transforming towards more presence & awareness, more options & choices and more curiosity, confidence & joy… towards our potential. Improvisation as a laboratory to discover who we are and what we might become. Improvisation as a gym for the heart. In a business context, my team and I apply our methodology of embodied, creative action in the following contexts:* Leadership development* Team development* Improvisation and creativity * Change management* Personal impact* Coaching* Difficult conversations* Presenting and public speaking* Intercultural communication * Storytelling* Win-win selling* Workshop facilitation* Event facilitation* Train the trainer* Open Space TechnologyIf any of the above resonates, I’d love to hear from you!c••••@spacecraft.london
