On my arrival to the school in Sept 22 the school had had 5 headteachers in as many years. I started alongside a new headteacher and the school started within a newly formed MAT. It was clear that the school was in a bad way. The lessons were not structured nor calm and corridors and unstructured time unsafe. Students reported that bullying was rife and the single most significant priority they wished to be dealt with. A section 5 Ofsted inspection soon after our arrival confirmed what we already knew and placed the school in category- Inadequate ’serious weaknesses’.2 years on - Lessons are structured and calm, supported by consistent and established routines. Disruption to learning is now rare and when it occurs is dealt with using established protocols supported by a dedicated team deploying streamlined systems and process. Corridors and unstructured time is much calmer and the relationships between staff and students has completely changed for the better. Behaviour data including all lesson warnings are now recorded and routinely analysed to establish patterns and key students of concern in order that individualised support be swiftly put in place to improve their conduct.I have developed and implemented an online bullying reporting tool enabling a dedicated team of staff, supported by a team of 6th form student ambassadors, to investigate and respond to each report and to support all parties involved and to identify recidivist perpetrators.We have seen a significant drop in our suspension rate (48%) from 22-23 to 24-25 (YTD) at a time where a significant and steady rise in suspensions has been observed over the same time period in our local authority, regionally and nationally. Most recently a 60% reduction in suspensions year to date half term 3 2024 compared to 2025.A subsequent section 5 Ofsted Inspection this last Autumn term, just 18 months after the first, placed us out of category and acknowledged our success.
