ABOUT CHRISTOPHER HOWETT
Currently, I’m collaborating with our team to oversee digital developments within one of the UK’s largest and most successful Students’ Unions. Student elections and representation, volunteering, community building and support services, entertainments and events—nightclubs, bars, and cafes. Shopping, e-commerce, fundraising, and employment opportunities. I believe today’s problems rarely fit neatly into single disciplines. As such, hybrid roles are becoming increasingly valuable. As a design thinker with a cross-functional background. I am strategy-led working on digital projects and service design, website and UX design, marketing, branding, and creative problem-solving. Companies and teams need people who can context-switch. Working across disciplines can lead to unexpected insights and creative breakthroughs. I use Design Sprints and similar methodologies to solve problems, test ideas, and develop services and products.Originally trained in product and three-dimensional design in 1996, I was a founder of NY Sushi, one of the leading UK club brands of the late nineties, early noughties. As a result, I found myself managing and promoting events across the UK and Europe and working with brands such as Levi’s, Chrysalis Radio, Stella Artois, Orange, Smirnoff, Gatecrasher, and Red Bull.I had a brief but glittering career as a presenter on EMAP Radio. My radio days were not without their highlights, both sublime; interviewing Zero 7, Dizzee Rascal, and ridiculous: Timmy Mallet \'Live\' and a procession of Big Brother housemates whose names now escape me.On from there, I was responsible for marketing at Inspiral: a specialist business support agency for companies in the creative and digital industries. Continued my career working for three years at a PR and communications agency. Managing accounts for businesses such as Harvey Nichols, First Transport, Sheffield Doc Fest, RREEF/Deutsche Bank, Sheffield Theatres, Cyan Books, and The Designers Republic. Before joining the Students’ Union, I worked with a digital cross-platform business produced crowd-sourced creative projects for the likes of Littlewoods and Aegis Media. Delivered conferences beamed to the world live over the internet (before that was easy). In attendance were fleet of foot creatives and large media organisations such as the BBC, Channel 4, and the Arts Council.
