   Foundation Medicine (FMI) is a molecular information company dedicated to a transformation in cancer care in which treatment is informed by a deep understanding of the genomic changes that contribute to each patient\'s unique cancer. The company\'s clinical assays provide a comprehensive genomic profile to identify the molecular alterations in a patient\'s cancer and match them with relevant targeted therapies and clinical trials. FMI\'s molecular information platform aims to improve day-to-day care for patients by serving the needs of clinicians, academic researchers and drug developers to help advance the science of molecular medicine in cancer. The mission of the Product Care group within Lab Operations at FMI is to supply technical support and innovate all product lines from sample accessioning to variant calling and report generation. Technically, we focus on the interaction between the different protocols that are linked together to form FMI’s comprehensive genomic profiles. It is at these cross roads that efficiencies are found and improved thus increasing data quality, reducing laboratory costs and decreasing turnaround time. We operate within the context of an ISO13485, CLIA/CAP and FDA (21CFR820) compliant laboratory. As Foundation Medicine’s first Applications Scientist, I made major contributions to defining the group and its mission within Lab Operations and FMI as a whole.
