About Christopher Teske

A recent graduate interested in biomedicine, translational research, and healthcare. Areas of investigation have included Congenital Heart Disease (CHD), 3D-printing/biofabrication, the molecular genetics of cardiac remodeling, and heart failure and mechanical circulatory support. Also interested in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Virtual Reality/Extended Reality (VR/XR), and their potential to revolutionize biomedical education and research/discovery. As a university student, I explored the neuropharmacology of psychoactive substances to discern the biological mechanisms mediating their possible therapeutic utility. Currently honing my skills in the clinical research industry, with plans to pursue further education and ultimately work towards a career in academic medicine and research-Starting university, I was intrigued by physiology. My interests were synthesized in my senior capstone project, exploring Notch signaling in the regenerating zebrafish heart and its potential clinical applications. A personal interest in medicinal chemistry and pharmacology developed, culminating in award-winning articles. In my junior year, I helped launch and contributed to Psychedelic Science Review (PSR), a widely-read publication whose mission it was to democratize groundbreaking research in the emerging field of psychedelics/consciousness studies. I am currently working as a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) at University of Michigan\'s Rogel Cancer Center Multidisciplinary Liver Clinic, assisting the department in the execution/maintenance of clinical trials concerning novel therapies for hepatobiliary cancers, histotripsy for hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma most notably-Beyond the sciences, I am interested broadly in social determinants of health and the intersection of public health/policy, and ethics and philosophy. Exploring concepts of biopolitics, bioethics, and disability studies has afforded me a holistic perspective. I believe science is but one component when working in the service of others; compassion and humanity are imperative for healing. I hope to build a career of my honor and privilege to be involved in the journey of one\'s care, while advancing science and encouraging innovation.
