ABOUT CHRISTOPHER JEYES

I am a hybrid. I practise at the Bar from Drystone Chambers and I consult on AI for the legal professions via Lextrapolate. I am a barrister of 20 years call, with wide-ranging career experience including advocacy at all levels of the court system. I specialise in serious and complex cases, including appellate advocacy, public law and judicial review. My legal career has included periods in solicitors\' firms and in Government, giving me a rare appreciation for the different branches of the legal professions. I am also a consultant to the legal professions on AI adoption, implementation, strategy and training. Building on my wide legal experience and a keen and longstanding interest in legal tech, I can offer a unique insight into how to move forward in the modern world. I offer: risk assessment, policy creation and revision, training on usage and risk, and guidance on AI strategy and implementation. I am part of a worldwide network of AI professionals. Legal work (recent): Acting for D1 in multi-handed fraud by company director, £1.4M Attempted murder of a police officer by naturist Successful appeal against conviction based on statutory interpretation (R v Norkus) Serious sexual offences historic & recent Successful application to vacate plea of guilty in RASSO case, previous counsel cross-examined Court of Appeal leading authority on time limits in POCA confiscation proceedings (R v Haden & others) Urgent judicial review proceedings in relation to custody time limits Technology: I have a keen interest in legal technology, having been awarded my Red Bag for legal arguments relating to the EU Ecommerce Directive in a large scale computer abuse case, and amongst other things I have- devised automated case management systems and custom workflows - developed websites and custom applications - managed large scale Google Ads and Bing Ads accounts - programmed custom CRMs - Engineered custom GPTs (for example a Barrister Ethics GPT) I am from the last generation of lawyers to be trained with hard copy law reports and statute books, only to switch to electronic resources immediately. The future of law involves adapting to effectively using technology to deal with back office and routine tasks, so lawyers can focus on high level strategy and providing the very best service they can to their clients. My philosophy is that to thrive, lawyers must adapt. First of all law firms need to understand their people and the work they do. Legal technology projects fail when staff do not buy in. I work to make sure your project succeeds.
