About Christopher Geryak

I’m currently a junior at Southern Oregon University, where I’ve built a strong foundation in sports, leadership, and education. My passion for athletics goes beyond the field. I’m driven by the way sports bring people together and create opportunities for growth, teamwork, and connection. I recently served as SOU’s Student Body Vice President, where I developed key leadership, communication, and organizational skills while representing the student body and helping strengthen campus life. I’ve also worked at the SOU Rec Center as a gameday assistant and referee, coordinating and managing campus sporting events. Now, I’m stepping into a new role as the Programming Lead with a focus in Rec Sports. In addition I begin as the Athletic Department’s Student Engagement Intern where I focus on getting students to games as well as connecting with clubs and organizations across campus. I’m eager to keep growing in the sports industry and to bring my experience, creativity, and enthusiasm to a team that values collaboration, excellence, and innovation. Whether it’s supporting athletes, improving fan engagement, or building stronger programs, I’m passionate about making a positive impact both on and off the field. In recent news, I just began serving on SOU’s Board of Trustees. As SOU faces financial uncertainties, I hope to use my business and past experiences to help guide SOU through this difficult time.

   Approves a mission for the university and ensures that the university is operating in furtherance of its stated purpose(s)- Oversees strategic planning and approves the strategic priorities of the university, including capital project priorities. The board also monitors the achievement of these university priorities and goals- Determines the employment of the university president and ensures a strong board-president partnership, including conducting annual performance evaluations- Delegates appropriate authority to the university president and others, including the faculty- Approves new academic programs of the university- Annually, determines and authorizes the collection of tuition and fees for the university- Annually, adopts a budget to ensure the financial integrity of the university and oversee its financial performance- Advocates for the university and the advancement of higher education- Maintains a commitment to the values of the university- Conducts regular evaluations of the Board of Trustees to assess the effectiveness of the board- Complies with the law and board policies, and the spirit of the law and board policies, especially with those pertaining to transparency, ethics, and conflicts of interest.
