About Christopher Dormer

As the Superintendent of Schools for the Norristown Area School District, I am proud, honored, and humbled to lead an urban district of nearly students and staff members in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. With 30 years of experience in public education, I have worked across urban, suburban, and rural districts, serving in a variety of roles—including instructional assistant, high school biology teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal, high school principal, and assistant superintendent—before stepping into my current leadership position.Extending my work beyond Norristown, I am deeply involved in helping shape the future of education in Pennsylvania. I currently serve as President of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators (PASA). I have held leadership roles in the Pennsylvania League of Urban Schools (PLUS Caucus of PASA), including terms as our caucus Secretary and President. Additionally, I have represented Montgomery County superintendents on the PASA Board of Governors and contributed to the PASA Professional Development Committee. I am a proud member of the League of Innovative Schools and have contributed to League Learning Collaboratives in Student Voice, High School Redesign, and AI Integration. My passion to uplift each and every student lies in fostering innovative, equitable, and student-centered learning environments that prepare students for success in a rapidly evolving world. As a member of the League of Innovative Schools, I am committed to advancing education through technology, data-driven decision-making, and collaboration with key shared interest partners.I welcome connections with fellow educators, administrators, and advocates who share a vision for transforming public education and empowering the next generation of learners and leaders.

   Aug 2018 — Present

   Leads an urban school district of 7800 students, 1100 staff members, and a $223 million annual budget- Leads the fiscal management, including four consecutive years of no property tax increases, addition of 195 new staff positions over last five budgets, establishment and growth of capital reserve fund, and three consecutive credit rating increases to current Aa3 from Moody’s- Leads the development and implementation of a 10-year,$350 million Facilities Master Plan- Leads local, county, and statewide advocacy efforts related to public school funding and educational policy- Implemented collaborative governance model with School Board to publicly share progress towards achieving goals to improve student outcomes- Created the Norristown Area CARES Committee, a collaborative of 20 community organizations working to provide joint opportunities to uplift children and families- Implemented Student Advisory Councils in all schools, including students in district decision making processes 70 times per year- Implemented four cohorts of GEAR UP, resulting in improved post-secondary outcomes- Implemented and sustained district’s 1-1 technology initiative and ensuring reliable high speed internet for all students- Led the transformation of school libraries to STEM aligned innovation centers for flexible and personalized learning- Implemented the Norristown Online Academy (NOA), the district’s virtual learning program- Expanded food service operations to include meal distribution events over breaks and “breakfast in the classroom” which increased participation to 70%- Opened the district’s Family Support Center, which moved student support services to a more centralized, accessible location for families- Led district branding initiatives resulting in significantly improved visibility, awareness, and use of unified district logos- Led improvements to district communications, resulting in more unified, timely, and consistent communication processes
