Jul 2014 — Present · Cincinnati, OH, US
For over ten years, I have been dedicated to caring for pediatric and young adult patients undergoing stem cell transplantation at Cincinnati Children\'s Hospital Medical Center, one of the world\'s premier transplant centers. My clinical expertise focuses on treating malignancies through hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and immune effector cell therapies. As the lead physician of the autologous stem cell transplant program, I manage a significant caseload of patients with solid tumors, including neuroblastoma, medulloblastoma, and small cell carcinoma of the ovary-hypercalcemic type. For over six years, I have maintained continuous funding from the NIH, reflecting my dedication to advancing medical research. My research primarily aims to identify, test, and implement clinical strategies that improve outcomes after stem cell transplants, with a specific focus on preventing bloodstream infections. I served as the Principal Investigator for the NIH-funded R21 study (R21 CA223503) titled Automated Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Adherence System to Reduce Complications after Intensive Cancer Therapy in Pediatrics. Additionally, I am leading the NIDCR UG3/UH3 study (UG3DE03••••01), which is a randomized, multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled study evaluating the efficacy of twice-daily oral xylitol in reducing bloodstream infections from oral organisms in pediatric stem cell transplant patients.I currently serve as the ASTCT Chair of the Quality Outcomes Committee, Co-Chair of the CIBMTR Committee on Infection and Immune Reconstitution, Co-Physician Lead of the Solutions for Patient Safety Hematology Oncology CLABSI Working Group, Chair of the 2024 PTCTC-ASPHO Meeting Planning Committee, Member of the USNWR Best Children\'s Hospitals - Cancer Working Group, and Founder and Chair of Engraft: A Learning Health Network in Transplant and Cellular Therapy.
