ABOUT CHRISTOPHER CHAVEZ
Politics and policy are my passion in life. I am the Deputy Policy Director for the Coalition for Clean Air (CCA), overseeing local advocacy and legislative outreach as well as co-managing CCA’s social and traditional media. My portfolio includes disadvantaged communities and electric vehicles, and I have experience influencing, developing messaging for and representing successful statewide and local ballot measure campaigns.Prior to CCA, I worked for the California State Senate and served Senators Fran Pavley and Alex Padilla. My time in the Senate gave me extensive experience with transportation, local government, K-12 and higher education policy. I also served Senator Pavley on the Senate Budget Committee and was her lead staff member on the Senate floor. During my time with Senator Padilla\'s office, I managed legislation that would become the first-in-the-nation law to require universities provide healthcare and scholarship protections to injured student-athletes. Before my time at the State Senate, I was elected as President of the California State Student Association and represented the then students of the California State University. I also served in multiple positions for the Associated Students at California State University, Long Beach, including President/CEO and Vice President/Chair of the Student Senate.Outside of work, I am very civically engaged. I am an alternate member to the Los Angeles County Democratic Party Central Committee and recently served two years as President of the Long Beach Young Democrats. I am also a strong supporter of immigrant rights. My hobbies include amateur photography, walking and hiking and music.
