ABOUT CHRISTINE TIEN

I have 30 years of experience advancing health equity, community development, and climate resilience across California. I have managed multimillion-dollar grant portfolios, directed large city departments, and built coalitions that empower residents, strengthen local economies, and advance systems change. At The California Endowment, I oversaw over $110M in grants to advance climate resilience, environmental and economic justice, and access to health care, housing, and food partnering with several dozen grantees annually to foster community-led solutions and local and statewide policy impact. Previously, as Deputy City Manager for Stockton and Union City, I led complex citywide initiatives, including climate sustainability, neighborhood revitalization, and community safety.I thrive at the intersection of policy, philanthropy, and community engagement, with a focus on equity, collaboration, and long-term impact. I am passionate about building partnerships across sectors, and ensuring that policies and programs serve the people and communities most affected by systemic inequities.
