ABOUT CHRISTIN SANDERS VEASLEY

I\'ve lived with life-altering chronic pain since surviving a near-fatal accident in my teens. My childhood health experiences led me to obtain a science degree, time conducting neuroscience research, and to the research advocacy community. As one of millions of Americans living with life-altering chronic pain, I know first-hand how critical it is for scientific discoveries to be expedited and translated into meaningful clinical change for the affected. As such, I\'ve spent my life advocating for the improvement and acceleration of rigorous chronic pain research. Most recently, I co-founded the Chronic Pain Research Alliance (CPRA)- the country\'s first and only collective advocacy effort focused on co-existing chronic pain disorders. With the ultimate goal of advancing timely diagnoses and effective evidence-based medical management for those affected, the CPRA works to promote high-caliber scientific research on these disorders, translate research findings into educational programs for medical-scientific professionals and patients, and drive the development of safe and effective treatments. The CPRA accomplishes its goal by working with a variety of invested stakeholders, including leaders from the medical-scientific community, non-profit organizations, Congress, industry and federal health research agencies. To further promote chronic pain research, treatment and education, I also serve as a member of several federal initiatives, collaborative alliances and public-private partnerships. Twenty-five years after my accident, I continue to live with debilitating chronic pain. To facilitate awareness and understanding, I speak openly about how pain impacts my life and that of my family.
