I’ve spent my entire career in the service industry.I just happen to do it in C-suites and boardrooms instead of restaurants now.My first jobs were in restaurants waiting tables and bartending while putting myself through college. If you’ve ever worked in that world, you know it teaches you everything you need to know about business: show up early, work hard, take care of people, and when things go sideways you fix the problem fast.The industries may have changed, but the work hasn’t.Early in my career I worked my way from Field Engineer to Director of Client Services. That was the stage of life where long nights came with the job. I was no stranger to sleeping under desks or in server rooms while systems rebuilt so my clients could open their doors the next morning.Eventually I started my own company. I didn’t start it with venture capital or a big master plan. I started it because clients trusted me. One of them believed in that trust enough to become my partner so we could build something together.Since then I’ve started four companies. Two failed. Two were successful. That’s the reality of building things.Today I work with CEOs, CFOs, and leadership teams around the world to help organizations make better technology decisions and build systems that support growth, stability, and long-term resilience.Sometimes that means guiding a company through a major transformation. Sometimes it means helping leadership untangle years of technology decisions and chart a better path forward. And sometimes it simply means being the person they call when the stakes are high and the next decision matters.At the end of the day, the work is still service.When clients tell me they rarely see me anymore because everything is running smoothly, I usually tell them that’s exactly the point. If you see me walking through the door, it usually means something serious happened and it’s going to cost someone time, money, or both.Technology matters. The work matters.But the people you serve (and the life you build around it) matter more.
