ABOUT CHRISTIAN KEARNEY

While enrolled at university, I studied microbiology and immunology as an undergraduate student, and molecular and cellular biology as a graduate student. I graduated with highest honors for both degrees. During this time, I also worked in an academic research lab under the supervision of Lisa A. Kaplan of the Quinnipiac University Biology Department, and was also heavily involved in peer support programs. While partaking in all of these experiences I learned many lessons that went beyond the core academic curriculum. They helped teach me how to communicate effectively with others in a variety of different situations, and conveyed the importance of group planning and working as a team. This was coupled with learning the significance of prioritizing tasks, being adaptable to a changing situation, and solving problems as they arise. One of the greatest assets that I developed while attending university was an ability to become highly proficient at quickly and efficiently analyzing complex data either from literature or in the lab setting. These are all skills and attributes that are essential for working in a high complexity team based environment. In addition, it was over the course of these experiences that I developed a passion for scientific research, and the development of new knowledge and insights. The ability to discover something that was previously unknown brings a great degree of challenge and personal satisfaction. Working for innovative companies that have driven the development of new technologies and treatments has only enhanced this sense of gratification.
