ABOUT MATT CHRISTENSEN

Since starting my career Cybersecurity in 2008, I have been a proven and results-driven leader choosing large and complex organizations in regulated industries. I build top-performing teams and programs that are anchored in serving and partnering with the business to support its mission, vision, and values. I invest in strong relationships across the organization and consider my “team” to include my organizational peers well outside of cyber and IT. I bring disciplined, actionable, and fiscally responsible leadership, applying common sense and lived experience when managing complex and ever-evolving demands. My core competencies include:* Program Strategy & Maturity* Governance & Compliance (HIPAA, PCI, HPH CPGs, 405(d), NIST* Risk Management * Business Resiliency* Secure & Responsible Artificial Intelligence * Training & Education* Executive Reporting * Insider Threat/Anti-Fraud* Team Building & Mentoring* Vendor Contracting Having been mentored and trained by some of the most influential CISOs, COOs, and CIOs, here are some insights into my leadership style- I am intentionally concerned and keenly supportive of my team’s health, strengths, and growth opportunities and view their success as my success- My role as a leader is to understand and communicate the threats and risks that are plausible, not just possible; to ensure the risks are managed appropriately; to clear roadblocks and provide autonomy to my team; and to deeply understand and support the business and our customers we serve- Cyber programs are not just a cost center but should provide material business value. We scale our programs by being fiscally cognizant and astutely aware our cost ratios through industry benchmarking- We partner across the organization to build and test resilient systems and processes, providing operational resiliency- We consistently round with the communities we serve to better understand how we can both improve their experience and simplify the complexities- We build diverse teams and intentionally hire people who have backgrounds that include relevant experience outside of IT. It means we even hire people that don’t have degrees (yet) and support them in their educational journey- We listen, we debate, we counsel, we act on what we know is best for the organization’s mission over our personal careers or team goals- We volunteer and regularly give back to the broader community and champion for the next generation of talent and leadership.
