About Christa Short

Christa Short is a process engineer, domain expert and technical group leader with over 21 years of industry experience in the biomanufacturing arena. Her technical expertise is centered on CHO- and HEK-based process design and development, scale-up, tech transfer, scale-down and process characterization for biological drug substances in both pharma and CDMO environments. Christa’s track record is connected to an extensive list of successful clinical milestones for biological medicines. She currently serves as the Vice President of Process Development at Wheeler Bio where she is focused on the build out of Wheeler’s development labs and platform manufacturing technology (ECHO2™). Christa began her career at Novazyme Pharmaceuticals (OKC, OK), a rare disease drug development company focused on lysosomal storage disorders. She helped to develop the DS processes for Myozyme® and Lumizyme®, approved by the FDA (2006 and 2010, respectively) for the treatment of Pompe Disease (Sanofi Genzyme). Following Novazyme, Christa joined Cytovance Biologics in the early where she built and led an upstream mammalian process development group. Across her tenure there, she developed/transferred/optimized/characterized bioreactor manufacturing processes for over 80 large molecules in both perfusion and fed-batch process modalities. In addition, Christa is a sought-after industry collaborator for several key vendors and has presented at numerous scientific conferences. Christa graduated from the University of Oklahoma (Norman, OK) in where she earned her B.Sc. in Biochemistry.
