WORK HISTORY
Research Associate Ecological Remote Sensing Scientist @UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH)
Lancaster, GB
This role focuses on the production and ongoing technical development of national-level remote sensing based geospatial datasets. Leveraging new advances in the satellite and airborne remote sensing sectors, machine learning and cloud computing, key outputs of this role are the production of the UKCEH Land Cover Map series of products characterising land cover distributions across the UK and tracking trends of the landscape change that is occurring. Additional ongoing land cover mapping and landscape characterisation projects in this role have supported disease modelling projects for Malaria (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia) and emerging infection diseases such as Echinococcus multilocularis (China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan), agricultural pollinator studies (Brazil, Argentina, Chile), and studies of vegetation dynamics in savannah environments (South Africa). Additional projects include developing data processing and analysis workflows using multi-source remote sensing data for agricultural crop yield predictive modelling, and to generate national above-ground Net Primary Productivity maps of UK grasslands in support of the UK Greenhouse Gases Inventory.
