ABOUT CHRISTIAN KEMPF

I am a resident in clinical genetics trained in cell biology and neuropathology, with an interest in cancer genetics, neurodevelopmental disorders, and biobanking. I studied medicine at Heidelberg Medical School, with research stays in Prague, Vienna, Oxford, and EPFL Lausanne.I began as a research student in the lab of Nobel Laureate Bert Sakmann at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, studied dendritic protein synthesis with Erin Schuman at California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, and later worked on presynaptic nanoarchitecture using virus-mediated stereotaxic delivery of genetically encoded biotags for multicolor stimulated emission depletion microscopy with Thomas Kuner, in collaboration with the lab of Nobel Laureate Stefan Hell.Clinically, I trained in neuropathology and tumor pathology in Zürich with Adriano Aguzzi, Elisabeth Rushing and Herbert Budka and in Tübingen with Manuela Neumann, completed a fellowship in neuroimmunology in the lab of Roland Martin with a focus on brain banking, and spent a year in child neurodevelopmental psychiatry contributing to the establishment and clinical integration of a research biobank.Bringing together experience from basic cell biology to clinical tumor diagnostics, and from synaptic neuroscience to clinical pediatric neuropsychiatry, I aim to translate molecular signatures into precision diagnostics and therapies in cancer and neurodevelopmental genetics.
