About Chris Gottschalk

Live video is difficult to get right. With VOD, you get multiple “do overs”, where with live video, you only get one shot. With over 14 years of digital video experience, specializing in live video acquisition, processing and distribution, I’ve come to understand and lead the industry in getting live and linear workflows right.Over those 14 years, I\'ve focused on making live and linear workflows easier to operate and maintain. The industry, full of excellent vendors has made the process much more streamlined. However, the traditional linear channel acquisition component, the first in any broadcast linear workflow, still needs improvement. That is where I find my passion today. After helping bring SRT to market in 2013, I now build and manage large deployments of Zixi and SRT infrastructure, continuing to drive forward the replacement of traditional channel backhaul.A few highlights from more recent years:• Architected, built, operated and managed infrastructure for \"Live Linear Streaming\" service, including Satellite and IP acquisition of linear sources, encoding, packaging, DRM and origin. • Architected, built, operated and managed infrastructure for \"Global Linear Distribution\" service. A service that acquires traditional linear channels and distributes over the public internet using Zixi and SRT protocols to 3rd party syndicators. Moving from traditional satellite and fiber acquisition to transport over the public internet gives MVPD\'s and OTT Distributors greater flexibility on how and where they receive feeds, such as in AWS or Azure, at a much lower cost. • Architected, built, operated and managed infrastructure for \"Origin Shield\" service. Scalability and protection for origin servers for large scale events, supporting millions of simultaneous viewers. • Bridged traditional broadcast workflows with AWS and GCP.
