ABOUT CHRIS FOUNTAIN
I have worked for over 45 years’ in the mineral industry. My experience ranges from being a development metallurgist at Mount Isa Mines Ltd (as a key member of the team that developed the ISASMELT™ process) to being General Manager Process Development and Engineering for Vale Exploration Pty Ltd. Much of my career has been in roles where influencing others to achieve common goals, and I have had a great focus on process improvement (technical and organizational). I have had a variety of roles, including: • production metallurgist • environmental management • analytical laboratory management • operations management • technology management • business development • feasibility study management. I have also been Chairman of the Technical Advisory Panel and a Board Member for the GK Williams Cooperative Research Centre for Extractive Metallurgy. My experience covers mineral processing and smelting, and a range of commodities, including: • copper • lead • zinc • silver • gold • mineral sands • iron ore • synthetic rutile • nickel • platinum-group metals • rare earth elements. I have worked in production and engineering companies, ranging in size from junior mining companies to the world’s second largest. My management experience includes negotiations with government and regulatory officials, managing contractors, and managing global teams, both from Australia and while living in Brazil.
