The School Assistant Facilities Manager plans, manages, supervises and oversees all work relating to the operation, maintenance, construction and retrofitting of all AESD school facilities, to provide a safe and healthy environment for students, staff and all facilities users.The School Assistant Facilities Manager supervises more than 200 full-time and casual employees.The School Assistant Facilities Manager has the following duties:• Plan, cost and coordinate property improvement projects funded by the Ministry of Education, ASD-E budgets and parents’ committees;• Coordinate renovations during construction projects;• Assess human resource requirements for building maintenance;• Implement preventive health and safety measures to protect students, staff and facilities;• Submit budget estimates to the Supervisor and manage budgets effectively;• Draft terms of reference and enter into contracts with qualified suppliers for building repair and maintenance; • Familiarize school principals with the tasks and responsibilities associated with building maintenance, repairs, fire marshal orders, Department of Health Inspections and cleaning;• Plan and organize custodial and other services during renovation or construction projects and moves resulting from school closures when necessary;• Review applications, interview and check references to select candidates for inclusion on the supply list for possible casual jobs;• Support outside contractor’s maintenance and repairs of boilers burning oil, propane, natural gas, bio-mass and assess with Public Safety Inspectors the safe operations of the boiler rooms; • Liaison between schools, contractors, Department f Transportation and Infrastructure and other entities when required; • Perform accident investigations / near miss investigations to determine root cause of incident(s). Developed corrective action measures to prevent reoccurrences and communicate investigation results
