ABOUT CHRISTOPHER TAN
I am a fourth-year Biomedical Engineering undergraduate at UC Irvine with a deep-seated passion for bridging engineering innovation with clinical medicine. My goal is to pursue a career as a physician-scientist, translating insights from one field into breakthroughs for the other.I have worked in a diverse set of research settings spanning neurophysiology, medical device development, and translational disease models. From these experiences, I have gained an interdisciplinary understanding of research and a variety of skills: wet lab techniques (stem cell culturing, immunohistochemistry, advanced imaging), medical device engineering (design, validation, verification), and business models (market research, IP, pitching).Beyond the lab, I am dedicated to leadership and service. As President of the Biomedical Engineering Society at UCI, I am committed to providing opportunities and uplifting those in our community. BMES at UCI provides hundreds of students at and beyond UCI with resources and connections to thrive in research, industry, and academics. I aim to continue our nationally recognized culture of excellence and continous growth.I am driven to use innovation to improve access and quality of healthcare for all.
