ABOUT CHRIS NEWEL

I retired after 30 years with the RCMP. During that time I worked in a four different detachments in southern BC. I attended or dealt with probably just about every type of call for service. With my strong organizational skills I was able to deal with dynamic, changing situations under pressure. I remained calm, assessed the risks and make decisions with respect to public safety. One of my strong attributes is my interpersonal skills. I built and maintain good working relationships with other agencies, clients, businesses, co-workers and governments. I was pro-active in the dealing with media outlets to ensure the story gets out there. Conflict can be a large part of my job and I dealt with that in a positive professional manner. I am actively involved in social media manage Facebook Pages and Twitter accounts for the several agencies and organizations. I work with small businesses and nonprofit groups to increase their social media presence and promote themselves more effectively. Prior to being an RCMP officer, I was project manager for a landscape construction company. My role there was to supervise and coordinate the installation of large-scale projects, often several at one time. This experience aided me my role as a police officer as I can deal with multiple demands that are dynamic, fast paced and ever changing.
