ABOUT CHRIS N. BAYER
As an impact-driven social scientist and sustainability specialist, I serve at the nexus of law, business and development in the pursuit of climate, nature, social justice and health outcomes. The first half of my career I worked in Africa as an international development practitioner on public health and human rights projects in DRC, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Côte d\'Ivoire, Senegal, and Nigeria. There, I honed my skills in monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), impact measurement, and evidence-based policy development. Over the past decade, primarily in the capacity of Principal Investigator, I led over a dozen research projects: From raising inter-disciplinary teams to then executing frontier scientific research involving qualitative and quantitative methods. Each project was bespoke and generated empirical findings for the client. Apart from stand-alone reports, outputs included theories of change, impact measurement frameworks, standard operating procedures and interactive dashboards. Research also included benchmarking corporate compliance with Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) laws, and their impact on sustainability outcomes. Research on corporate performance has included conflict minerals (Dodd-Frank Section 1502), modern slavery (California TISC and UK MSA), non-financial reporting (EU NFRD studies on Sweden, Germany and Austria), as well as corporate duty of care (French Devoir de Vigilance). Within the ESG space, I serve as subject matter expert on the topics of child labour, conflict minerals and carbon neutrality. Fortunate to have served as trusted advisor to a number of private, public and standard-bearing stakeholders. Private sector organisations have include Vodafone, Barry Callebaut, iPoint, Assent Compliance, and CCLA. Public sector clients have included OECD, USDOL, USAID, CDC, UNICEF, and The Greens/EFA. NGO clients have included the SBTi, Fairtrade International, Rainforest Alliance, Solidaridad, and Electronics Watch.
