ABOUT CHRIS MILLS
I\'m a chartered engineer (CEng) with an engineering doctorate (EngD) and a BEng (Hons) in Chemical & Process Engineering. I have over 18 years of experience in engineering and specialise in flow measurement. I am currently the Head of Metrology at TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory (NEL). My current role involves R&D, consultancy, training, and technical support. As part of the transition towards sustainable and clean green energy sources, I have completed projects relating to hydrogen and also Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS). I have been able to successfully apply the skills and experience that I have gained from previous consultancy, R&D, oil & gas, medical, and water industry projects into these new and exciting areas. During my time at NEL, I have successfully formulated and completed numerous Joint Industry Projects (JIPs) and high-value research projects.I have extensive theoretical and practical expertise in flow measurement and considerable experience with calibration philosophies and measurement uncertainty budgets. I have practical experience with all types of flowmeters including Coriolis, ultrasonic, turbine and differential pressure devices along with primary and secondary calibration techniques including provers and gravimetric systems. I have also been responsible for the design and commissioning of several flow measurement systems.I have published multiple journal papers, technical papers, reports and technical presentations at numerous conferences around the world. As well as representing NEL at EURAMET, Energy Institute Hydrocarbon Management Committee 1 (HMC-1), and International Standards Organisation (ISO) meetings, I also chair the Measurement Focus Group meetings. I am also the Vice-Chairperson for IMEKO Technical Committee 9 and represent NEL at the International Bureau of Weights and Measures Working Group for Fluid Flow (WGFF).
