About Chris Lyon
Experienced hardware design manager with an emphasis on consumer hardware, high-speed interconnects, storage infrastructure, and global-scale systems engineering.
Experience
Senior Director, Hardware Engineering
Oct 2005 — Present
Responsible for the design, architecture, and development of Google-branded consumer devices, which showcase the ideal Google user experience and serve as a platform for launching new technologies. As the first hardware engineer on the ChromeOS team and now as the leader of the \"Create\" hardware organization, my contributions have directly led to major new business opportunities for Google in the notebook, tablet, and desktop computing market segments.I have a consistent track record of taking complex products from concept to completion- Chromebook Cr-48 (2010), where I worked to establish and uphold our vision of “Speed, Simplicity, and Security” as we scaled to support an extensive OEM ecosystem through our hardware reference design model- Chromebook Pixel (2013), which established Google as a manufacturer of high quality consumer hardware and has served as the foundation for building a world-class engineering team to deliver products that showcase the best of the Google experience to our users- Chromebook Pixel 2 (2015), which delivered significant improvements in performance + battery life (12 hours) over the previous generation product, and featured the new USB Type-C connector- Pixelbook (2017), building on our previous product innovations to deliver the thinnest 2-in-1 convertible on the market (10.3 mm), which has received critical praise. The breadth of this work has given me a unique understanding of how to effectively balance business goals with engineering investment, and the ability to accurately assess risk and schedule/cost impact at all levels of the stack in order to make informed decisions on product strategy, prioritization and staffing.
